In Japanese Manga (comics), Yaoi refers to a genre of gay fiction that features young and attractive male characters, often in the "bishōnen" (beautiful boy) archetype. Usually the stories are marketed to and read by straight female audiences. Bara, by contrast, is a genre of fiction made largely by and for gay men. It tends to portray more muscular, rugged, or realistic male bodies. A Mangaka is a Japanese Manga (comic) artist.
